Course - Infrastructure Asset management - TBM4666
Infrastructure Asset management
Lessons are not given in the academic year 2025/2026
About
About the course
Course content
The course is primarily meant to provide scientific support and theoretic basis for students that select in-depth studies (project and master thesis) within the infrastructure study track. Topics are selected based on which is expected to be essential for the job situation that students will encounter. These are:
- Pipe network for water and wastewater, sustainable management, i.e. operation, maintenance and rehabilitation regarding economy, environment and customer service
- Transport network i.e. operation, maintenance and rehabilitation regarding economy, environment and customer service
- Use of models for condition, performance as well as service life analysis of new and existing infrastructure assets
- Decision support and risk management approaches for infrastructure under uncertainty
Learning outcome
Knowledge and competence
At the end of the course the students understand the principles for maintenance and asset management of existing and new infrastructure systems. The students should be able to apply the principles of infrastructure asset management for the given engineering problems in order to develop suitable solutions in the field.
Skills
At the end of the course the student can develop integrated asset management plans for infrastructure systems. They can formulate and structure a given problem and apply risk management principles, decision support tools and models in order to select suitable solutions and defend their decision in a way that is technical sound, understandable, well presented and documented. They demonstrate the necessary skills in all tools necessary for this task.
General competence
At the end of the course students are able to develop engineering solutions in an analytical and reflected way by critically evaluation of the available information and methods in a complex and unpredicted case.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures will be given on regular basis running in parallel with a term paper development process.
Further on evaluation
Course assessment is done by an oral exam (60%) and a term paper (40%).
In the case of a re-sit examination, re-sit of the oral exam will be offered within the ordinary period for re-sit exams. Re-sit of other partial exams must be done in the same semester as the course is taught.
