About the course
Course content
Carbohydrates, polysaccharides. Amino acids and chemical structure of proteins. Enzymes, kinetics and mechanism. Carbohydrate metabolism. Principles for energy transfer in living cells. Lipid metabolism including biosynthesis and degradation of fatty acids. Nucleic acid structure, replication, transcription and protein biosyntheses.
Learning outcome
To give a basic introduction to the chemical structure and function of biomolecules, metabolism, energy generation and transfer in the cell, molecular genetics and protein biosynthesis.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.

Basic knowledge in general and organic chemistry.
