Course content
TEGN2004 builds on TEGN2002 and provides knowledge about the interpreter's role space and how an interpreter can cooperate with others in the interpreting situation. We will look at the professional's power in general, and discuss the interpreter's relation to the other participants in the interpreting situation in particular. We will also look in detail at some interpreting theories and models of the interpreting process, and how they can be useful tools for the interpreter. Here we will also discuss team interpreting, how to prepare for an interpreting assignment, and how to give feed back to colleagues.

Candidates
- have knowledge about the interpreter's role space and how an interpreter can cooperate with others in the interpreting situation
- can reflect on trust, power and relation building in interpreting situations
- have basic knowledge of selected interpreting theories and models of the interpreting process
- have detailed knowledge about different interpreting methods, including team interpreting
- can use theoretical tools to prepare for an interpreting assignment
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, discussions, role play, practical exercises, written assignments.
Compulsory assignments:
80% compulsory attendance. (Failure to comply with this can be compensated in accordance with instructions from the teacher.)
1. Group work regarding the interpreter's role space and how an interpreter can cooperate with others in the interpreting situation. 2. A practical exercise in using theoretical tools to prepare for an interpreting assignment. 3. A written assignment on how interpreting theory and models of the interpreting process can improve professional practice. 4. A written reflection on trust, power and relation building in interpreting situations.
Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.

Portfolio examination where students continue to work on the two written assignments that were produced as compulsory assignments. All examination aids allowed.

Norwegian Sign Language (LTTEGN)

TEGN2000, TEGN2001
Required previous knowledge
TEGN2002.
Requires admission to the BA-program in Norwegian Sign Language.
