Course content
TEGN2006 is based on TEGN2003. Here students will continue to develop their knowledge about and skills in using language in general, and Norwegian Sign Language and Norwegian in particular. Students will participate in formal and informal conversations and discussions on a variety of themes in Norwegian Sign Language, to learn to adapt their communication to different people and situations. Students will continue to study different types of communication in professional settings. Teaching methods and activities from TEGN2003 and TEGN2001 will be used here too. In TEGN2006 students will conduct a study as part of their introduction to research and research methods.
Learning outcome
Candidates
- can understand Norwegian Sign Language produced in normal tempo provided they are used to the speaker's idiolect
- can express themselves in Norwegian Sign Language that is mainly free from disturbing mistakes
- can participate in conversations and discussions in Norwegian Sign Language
- can communicate knowledge about language and communication in Norwegian Sign Language and Norwegian
- can plan and conduct a small study on a topic relevant to the course
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, group discussions, literature search, planning a study, exercises, develop own linguistic abilities.
Compulsory assignments:
80% compulsory attendance. (Failure to comply with this can be compensated in accordance with instructions from the teacher.)
1. A written plan for a study. 2. A draft of an academic text. 3. Annotated bibliography. 4. Presentation of the study in Norwegian Sign Language (group discussion).
Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.

Further on evaluation
Part 1: Written academic text of 4,000-5,000 words. All examination aids allowed. The paper counts as 40% of the final grade.
Part 2: Individual oral exam, in the form of a conversation (up to 15 minutes) of the theme for the academic text, with both internal and external examiners. No examination aids are allowed. The conversation counts as 60% of the final grade.
If a candidate wishes to improve his or her grade or in the event of a failed exam, the student may submit only an individual part of the exam.

Completed second year of the BA-program in Norwegian Sign Language.
