About the course
Course content
This course is a continuing education program for both newly qualified interpreters with a bachelor's degree and experienced interpreters who have completed TEGN6300. The academic content will build on the current bachelor's degree program and contribute to increased knowledge, competence, and skills in language, interpreting, and professional development. An important part of the course is to provide students with knowledge and experience with tools that support professional development. The skills acquired by the candidates can be applied in their daily work as interpreters. The course is web-based and has a flexible structure that makes it possible to combine study with work.
This course can be included as an elective in the Master's program in Language and Communication in the Professions (MSKIP).
Learning outcome
The candidate
- can analyze various features of spoken and signed languages using relevant terminology
- has knowledge of language as social action, how people create meaning, and the function of utterances in different communication situations
- can apply knowledge of meaning making and coherence in text to constructively guide students and colleagues in interpreting
- have knowledge of participant roles and role sets in interpreter-mediated conversations
- can communicate with other professionals and partners about professional issues and analyses from their own field
- can analyze how social structures and working conditions affect the interpreting profession.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
HF - Continuing education - Category 1 - Lower degree - 100% Institution funded (HFEVU1L100)
Recommended previous knowledge
Completed professional training in sign language and interpreting.
Work experience as a sign language interpreter.
