Course - Industrial Process and Energy Technology - TEP4185
Industrial Process and Energy Technology
About
About the course
Course content
The course comprises selected industrial applications of industrial process systems and energy conversion processes, with emphasize on natural gas. Introductorily, an overview of important problems and challenges in Norwegian process industry is given. Then some selected applications are treated in more detail. These applications are natural gas processing, natural gas power plants and LNG-technology.
A general basis in boiling and condensations is given with emphasize on industrial heat exchangers is also provided. The course is thaught in close cooperation with relevant Norwegian Industry.
Learning outcome
The course intends to give the students insight in industrial processes based on thermodynamics and mass and heat transfer. Further, the student should develop skills in applying basic theory in solving engineering problems.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, ordinary exercises and computer exercises with process simulation tool. 2/3 of the exercises must be accepted. Excursion to the Methanol factory at Tjeldbergodden, to SINTEF Multiphase flow laboratory at Tiller and to Statoil Research center at Rotvoll. The lectures and exercises may be held in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
