About

About the course

Course content

The specialization project is directed towards technical, economical and environmental analysis of systems that demand energy. This involves requirements of power and energy, inclusive conversion, transportation and use of energy. The course also has project works directed towards analysis and development of infrastructure and relevant systems giving an efficient and environmentally use and supply of energy for a sustainable society. This course is mainly directed towards systems where the energy demand my be covered by energy sources like biomass, solar energy, natural gas and other fossil fuels, but may also include integrated electro/thermal systems. Relevant fields will be: Heat/energy planning, environmental consequences analyses, life-cycle analyses, value chain analysis, air conditioning of buildings, process integration, thermal processing of food et al. The project consists of a project work at 15 study-points.
At the choice of the project the students will professionally belong to one of the following professional groups at Department of Energy and Process Engineering:
- Thermal Energy.
- Industrial Process Technology.
- Energy and Indoor Environment.
- Fluids Engineering.
For more information on possible, relevant project areas and teachers you may look at the specialization projects referred to at the respective professional groups above.
You will find on the website of the department: http://www.ept.ntnu.no/fag/

Learning outcome

The specialization course will give the students knowledge and skills in analyzing and solving professional problems of scientifically and technical nature, including reporting of the achieved results. The work is focusing on technical, economical and environmental analysis.

Learning methods and activities

Independent project work with guidance. The guidance and advice are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
