Course content
Fourier series. Introduction to Lebesgue measure theory and Hilbert spaces. Convolution. Discrete Fourier transform Fast Fourier Transform. Filter theory and signals. Depending on the students' interests we will choose between various applications from modern technology like image analysis or selected mathematical topics.
Learning outcome
To give students a thorough introduction to analytical methods in Fourier analysis.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and compulsory exercises. Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.
Recommended previous knowledge
The course is based on TMA4100/05/10/15/20 Calculus 1/2/3/4K, or equivalent. It is an advantage to have TMA4145 Linear Methods. For students who have their background from Mathematical sciences: MA1101 Calculus I, MA1201 Linear Algebra and Geometry and MA2105 Differential Equations and Complex Function Theory.
