About the course
Course content
Descriptive statistics. Probability theory. Probability distributions. Multivariate distributions. Estimation. Interval estimation. Hypothesis testing. Simple linear regression. Extreme variables.
Learning outcome
The subject aims to give the students the necessary background in probability and statistical inference, so that they are able to recognize simple statistical standard situations within technology and natural sciences, and know how these situations should best be analyzed. The students should understand the most important consepts within probability and statistics, and know the terminology well enough to be able to communicate with statisticians in more complicated situations.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and compulsory exercises. Written final examination is the basis for the grade awarded in the course. Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.
Compulsory assignments
- Exercises
Recommended previous knowledge
The course is based on TMA4100 Calculus1 and TMA4105 Calculus 2.
