Learning outcome
The course aims at giving the students a basis for later chemistry related courses and for mastering chemistry related issues in technology.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and written excersises. 50% of exercises must be accepted. Two written tests must also be passed for access to final examination. Oral examination may be given for repeated exams.
Compulsory assignments
- 2 written tests
- Exercises
Recommended previous knowledge
A basic knowledge, equivalent to the first course in chemistry at Norwegian High Schools is recommended. You should know the most important elements and inorganic compounds, you should understand the meaning of chemical formulas and chemical reactions and understand the concepts of atom, molecule and mole. A good understanding of logarithms and exponentials is necessary.
Course materials
The curriculum is not linked to any textbook. A list of recommended books will be given, the ones by Zumdahl or Atins and Jones are the most popular ones. Aylward & Findlay: "SI chemical data" is required.
