Course content

A wide range of themes included:

Definition and terminology

Main elements in the DP system and redundancy.

Connections to other ships systems and Power Managment System.

Position Reference Systems and other sensors.

Introduction to the Operator Station and different modes.

Simulator training

Rules, regulations, certificates and authorities.

Alarm situations and limitations.

Learning outcome

This course will qualify the student for the Nautical Institutes Seagoing DP Familiarisation program.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and simulator training. The DP simulator training are conducted on different reference systems and simulators. The DP Basic Course gives an introduction to DP systems from Kongsberg Maritime, Alstom, L-3 Communication, Marine Technology and Rolls-Royce. The course material are in english. The lectures are held i norwegian if all students speak norwegian, otherwise in english. 

Obligatoriske arbeidskrav:

The student have to attend 100% all lectures and practical exercises.

Further on evaluation

1 hour written exam.The students skills in operating the systems and to read out and understand the necessary information given from the systems will be continously evaluated through the course.

Specific conditions

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.
