About the course

Course content

The course is built around several small projects (2-3) and a chosen project where students work with detailing and completion of basic products for industrial production.

Students will explore how the joints, fasteners, fittings, materials, production processes, surface treatment affects aesthetics, form, function, manufacturability and production cost.

3D modeling (surface and solid) and prototyping are important tools in the course.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: Gain experience with detailing on every level, and understanding of the importance of details for industial produced product's overall design.

Skills: Be able to work with 3D modeling and prototyping at granularity.

General qualifications: The candidate has developed an appreciation for industri designer's influence and responsibility in the detailing phase.

Learning methods and activities


Lectures, project work, assignments, model making, excursions to local manufacturing industries. A verbal presentation of the results is included in the project assignments.
