About the course

Course content

Operation and control models for production and logistics. Control principles. MRP/MRP II/ERP: Material Requirements Planning, Manufacturing Resource Planning, Enterprise Resource Planning. Japanese Production philosophy, Lean Manufacturing, Toyota Production System, Kanban, Optimized Production Technology. Inventory control. Operational planning and control. Group technology, layout and material flow analysis. ICT-systems in Operations Management.

Learning outcome

Knowledge, after completion of this course, the student will have knowledge related to:
- The subject is to give the students basic understanding and knowledge of the logistics- and control processes in a manufacturing company, together with knowledge about principles, tools and systems to analyze, develop and perform these processes.

Skills, after completion of this course, the student will have skills related to:
- The course will train skills to be able to analyze a manufacturing system, propose improvement schemes and manage and implement improvement projects. Furthermore, train skills to be able to manage the operation of a manufacturing company.

General competence, after completion of this course, the student will have general competence related to:
- Create understanding of the significance of efficient manufacturing and rapid material flow has on the competitiveness of compannies, and how this creates increased customer value.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and team based exercises concerning a real case. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. If the teaching is given in English the Examination papers will be given in English only. Students are free to choose Norwegian or English for written assessments.
At postponed exam (re-sit examination), a written exam may be changed to an oral exam.
