Course content

The course offers a specialisation in selected advanced topics within Production Management and Logistics, including smart, sustainable and digital production management and logistics, and application of Industry 4.0 in production management and logistics.

In addition, the course contains an introduction to relevant research methodologies and scientific writing.

Learning outcome


After completion of the course, the student will have deep theoretical knowledge within production management and logistics. The course is a basis for TPK4530 Production Management, Specialization Project.


After completion of the course, the student will have skills related to:

  • Finding and applying new knowledge from literature and other reliable sources
  • Evaluating scientific publications and using these in their own work
  • Designing a research project, including formulating problems and research questions, and planning appropriate activities and tasks
  • Giving a structured presentation of their own work

General competence;

After completion of the course, the student will have general competence required to design, carry out, and report a research project within production management and logistics.

For admission to the exam 2/3 of 6 exercises have to have been approved.

Mandatory work from previous semesters can be accepted by the Department for re-take of an examination if there have not been any significant changes later.

The oral examination is given in English. The student can answer in English or Norwegian.

Specific conditions

Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.

Required previous knowledge

The course is only open for students who have chosen TPK4530 Production Management, Specialization Project.

Course material consists of selected academic publications. These will be made available on Blackboard.
