Thesis in Exercise Physiology and Human Movement Science
Lessons are not given in the academic year 2025/2026
About
About the course
Course content
The master's thesis is a scientific study on a topic within exercise physiology and human movement science. In their work on the thesis, the students will train in resolving problems independently, undertaking critical assessment of scientific literature, formulating clear research questions and plan, organize, document and execute a scientific project. Through the scientific problem-focused approach, students will improve their ability to pursue lifelong learning. More information about the thesis is found here.

Learning methods and activities
The master’s thesis is an independent project, supervised by one or more academic experts, resulting in a thesis. The work can be organized in several ways:
- Independent Project: In this approach, the candidate takes responsibility for a research project from start to finish, supported by supervision along the way. This includes everything from developing the project idea to collecting data, all carried out independently.
- Collaboration with Individual Reporting: Another approach is for multiple students to work together on data collection on a larger scale, but each writes an individual thesis based on different aspects of the collected material.
- Participation in Larger Research Projects: Candidates can also participate in ongoing research projects involving multiple researchers. In such cases, the candidate’s thesis focuses on a limited part of the larger project.
Each of these approaches has different strengths and limitations that may suit various candidates. Regardless of the chosen organization, the goal is to develop extensive knowledge and research skills while contributing new insights to the field.
Further on evaluation
Written thesis, and oral thesis defense (Grading scale: A-F)
Compulsory activities/tasks:
- Project description
- The candidate shall present the work in progress in a seminar
The Master`s thesis shall be written in the form of a scientific article consisting of:
- Title page
- Infographic
- Abstract
- Introduction
- Methods
- Results
- Discussion (ending with a conclusion)
- References
- Appendices (if applicable)
If the written work is given the grade F, no oral examination will be held. If the exam is not passed, the candidate must submit a new version of the Master's thesis within 3-6 months.
