About the course
Course content
Multimedia components and network based services, switching principles, network types, Internet. Reference models (i.e. OSI and TCP/IP) and generic protocol functionality. Functionality in the application, transport, network, link and physical layers. Within the application layer, architecture and protocols for the Domain Name System, e-mail and World Wide Web (WWW) will be focused. Introduction to multimedia systems. Introduction to wireless and mobile networks.
Learning outcome
The objective of the course is to provide knowledge and understanding of the architectures, principles and technologies that are the basis for current and future computer and telecommunication networks and services.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, exercises and projects. Lectures and excercises are common to all students following the course. All students must complete a mandatory project in order to qualify for the final exam. For students following the Computer Technology and Communication Technology study programs, the project is common to several courses in this term. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
