About the course

Course content

This course focuses on 1) value creation models that characterize ICT-based business and its specific strategies and public regulations, and 2) sustainability from social, economical and environmental perspectives. The course is based on theory as well as guest lectures on a variety of related topics - including historical development of the sector, monopolies, the net-based globalization, social networking, peculiar business models, "Internet of Things", the ICT sector as seen from a financial perspective. These topics are tied together through a general reader as well as comments in connection with the lectures and some additional literature.

Learning outcome

Learning objectives are:
A. Knowledge:
1) To get a basic understanding and overview over problems, challenges and solutions in the borderland between information and communication technology (ICT), strategy, market and societal environment, with a focus on today's challenges.
2) To "meet real life" through lecturers from various parts of the business and subject matters.
3) To get a broad understanding of the sector and its importance for society and its development.

B. Skills:
1) To be able to communicate, reason and think creatively about the above mentioned topics.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and quizzes. There will be arranged several quizzes throughout the semester. The quizzes will combined account for 25 % of the total grade. The quizzes are not mandatory. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
