Course content

The course offers a specialization in grammatical issues, with more emphasis on theoretical aspects than in the undergraduate introductory course.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE

The candidate

-has extensive knowledge of key issues and methods in modern German grammar

-is conscious of significant differences between Norwegian and German phrase structure

-masters key terminology within modern German grammar

PROFICIENCY

The candidate -masters relevant linguistic tools of analysis

-is able to utilise relevant grammars, dictionaries and reference books

-is able to discuss and convey key issues within and points of view on modern German grammar

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The candidate

-is able to update and broaden their knowledge of modern German grammar

-is able to reflect on linguistic differences between Norwegian and German and make use of this in both oral and written German

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars and assignments.

Compulsory assignment: Either 1 written assignment (ca. 2000 words) or 2-3 short written assignments.

Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester).

  • Either one written assignment in German (approx. 2000 words) or 2-3 shorter written assignments

Further on evaluation

Written exam (4 hours). The candidate may bring a German-German dictionary (Duden, Wahrig, Langenscheidt etc.). The exam must be answered in German.
