Course content
The course gives an introduction to translation both as a practical skill and as an object of study. Through a combination of translation exercises and analyses of existing translations, the course offers insight into central practical and theoretical issues in the field.

Candidates who have passed this course
- can identify and explain contrasting aspects in translations between Norwegian and German, and vice versa
- can reflect upon alternative ways of expressing meaning
- has insight into fundamental concepts and issues in translation theory

- can translate texts of various genres from Norwegian into German, and from German into Norwegian
- know how to make critical, appropriate and ethically responsible use of analogue and digital translation tools
- can analyze translations and source texts using relevant theoretical concepts

Candidates who have passed this course
- have developed an understanding for mediation of meaning content across languages and cultures
- have insight into translation as a linguistic, literary, and cultural phenomenon
Learning methods and activities
Lectures with discussions. The course is primarily run as an online course. Students are expected to actively participate in discussions and translations.
Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.

Recommended previous knowledge
Bachelor's degree with specialisation in German, or equivalent previous education.
