Appeal

International master's degrees

Appeal

Cf. the Norwegian Public Administration Act § 28, you have the right to appeal NTNU's decision if you believe you have been wrongfully rejected from admission.

You will need to provide a valid reason for your appeal, and must be able to document how and why your application has been wrongfully assessed.

Valid & invalid grounds for appeal

Valid & invalid grounds for appeal

For an appeal to merit consideration, there must be an evident mistake in the assessment of the application. It is not possible to appeal without valid cause – an appeal simply stating that one wishes to appeal will not be considered.

If you have been rejected for a reason that is demonstrably false, you have grounds for an appeal. You will need to provide documentation to prove your claim.

Valid reasons for appeal:

You have grounds for an appeal if:

  • You have been rejected due to a lack of financing, but you can prove that you have uploaded documentation of financing within the deadline

  • You have been rejected for not meeting the English language requirements, but you can prove that you uploaded an approved form of language documentation within the deadline

  • Other similar, demonstrably false grounds for rejection

Invalid reasons for an appeal:

You have no grounds for an appeal if:

  • You have submitted one or more required documents after the deadline listed on NTNU's website

  • You have submitted the wrong kind of document
    • For example an English language test which is not listed on our website as accepted proof

  • You have not included all required documents in your application
    • For example, if you have included a sponsor letter, but not a bank transcript

  • You were rejected due to competition
    • If you were rejected due to competition, there were candidates more qualified than you and you did not make it to the end of this round of admissions. If so, you have no grounds for appeal

If the assessment of your educational background is demonstrably wrong, you have grounds for an appeal.

Valid reason for an appeal:

  • You have been rejected because you lack sufficient education in mathematics, but you have uploaded documentation within the deadline that shows you have the required qualifications.

Invalid reason for an appeal:

  • If you do not have the sufficient number of credits, arguing that your knowledge is sufficient it is not grounds for appeal

Appeal

Background for rejection

If you have received the rejection ground ‘Your application is incomplete’, this means you have missed one or more documents in your application. You can find the list of required documents here.

While a C-average is a minimum requirement for admission, it is not a guarantee that you will receive an offer of admission. Admission to NTNU is highly competitive, with many strong appliants. If you have received the rejection ‘not admitted due to competition’, you cannot appeal on the grounds that you meet the C-average requirement.

Deadline

Deadline

The deadline to lodge an appeal is 3 weeks (21 days) from the day the decision was sent to you.
