Associate professor of biomedical optics at NTNU since November 2009

Fields of interest and present research activities

Biomedical optics, including optical and thermal properties of tissue, light-tissue interactions, and diagnostic applications of medical technology such as optical imaging and spectroscopy. Research interests include instrumentation, modelling and signal processing for spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging. Current projects covers a wide range of inter disciplinary applications which involves medicine, physics and engineering.

  • Fluorescence and white light characterization of atherosclerotic plaques
  • Optical characterisation of skin (connective tissue, diabetic ulcers, psoriasis, port-wine stains)
  • Characterization of connective tissue and lipids in fish
  • Forensic medical optics: characterization, modelling and age determination of skin bruises
  • Optical monitoring of skin changes in psoriasis as a function of UV dose
  • Optical characterization of photo induced reversible changes in riboflavin
  • Monitoring of laser treatment of port-wine stains (treatment response and immediate reactions), and measurements of cryogen cooling profiles
  • Trans dermal bilirubinometri and monitoring of skin effects of photo-treatment of neonatal jaundice
  • PDT and PCI in a rat bladder cancer model (dosimetry and treatment monitoring)
  • UV and visible light effects on oral tissues and skin
