Marko Valenta is a sociologist and works as Professor at the Department of Social work and health science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), in Trondheim, Norway. He is also a Senior Researcher at the NTNU Social research. He did his graduate work in Sociology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology where he also received his Ph.D in Sociology. He is author and co-editor of 3 books and has written more than 60 journal articles, research rapports and book chapters. His research interests are sociology of ethnicity and migrations, and work with reception, integration and return of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.
Valenta is involved in several research projects in Norway, Croatia, Bosnia and United Arab Emirates. He is also currently working on two international comparative projects: (i) a project on Ethnic Minorities and Politics in Southeastern Europe, and (ii) Comparative Research Project on Migrant Labor in the Persian Gulf, Canada and Scandinavia.
Valenta is a member of the European IMISCOE (International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion). He is also member of Nordic IMER network, and is a board member of Norwegian IMER network. He also works with strenghtening of IMER network for Southeastern Europe, the work supported and funded by Norwegian Research Council. Valenta has also been involved in organization and implementation of several national and international conferences, MA/PhD courses and workshops.
