Course content
The course is a survey of international and Norwegian economic history after the end of the Napoleonic wars. Why and how has economic globalisation taken place? Why was the economy de-globalised in the interwar era? The course analyses the development from the 19th Century gold standard regime to the present day economic liberalism. Norway's economic history is analysed in an international context.
Learning outcome
A candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome according to the course curriculum, defined as knowledge and skills:
Knowledge:
Candidate
- will acquire knowledge about the international and Norwegian economic development after the 1820s
- acquires an understanding of the most important developments of economic
Skills:
Candidate
- is able to explain crucial changes in economic development
- should be able to write an extended independent, well-structured analytical essay/paper, about a topic related to the content of the lecture
- has acquired knowledge which constitutes the basis for deeper insights in the periods discussed.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures. On assignment must be approved before the student can take the exam. There is an 4 hour exam at the end of the semester.
