Course content
The course gives the following knowledge:
1. Provides basic knowledge about the main elements in information technology: computer hardware, software, communication and network, and ICT in the society.
2. Provide basic knowledge about the main elements in procedure-oriented programming.
3. Provide basic knowledge about the process from a problem to a working program.
The course gives the following skills:
1. Be able to do simple reasoning about ICT related to social issues, legal issues and ethical issues.
2. Be able to perform simple analysis of how ICT systems work.
3. Be able to utilize the basics in practical, procedure-oriented programming.
4. Be able to use relevant programming tools.
5. Be able to carry out small programming projects. MATLAB will be used as the programming language in this course.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- Hold basic knowledge about information and communication technology (ICT): computers, software, network and ICT and society.
- Hold basic knowledge about the basic elements of procedure-oriented programming.
- Hold basic knowledge about the process from a problem to a working program.
Skills:
- Be able to make simple evaluations in ICT-issues related to society, law and ethics.
- Be able to do simple analysis of how ICT systems work.
- Be able to use basic elements in practical, procedure-oriented programming.
- Be able to use relevant programming tools.
- Be able to carry out small programming projects.
General competence:
- Hold basic awareness about ethical and legal issues related to use of ICT.

Lectures, exercise lectures og mandatory exercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
