Course content

Statically determinate structures: Beams, plane trusses and frames. Axial force, shear force and bending moment distribution in structures. Stress, strain and elasticity. Linear theory for beams: Bending stresses, differential equation for deformation of beams.

Learning outcome

This is a basic course in statics and strength of materials. The students will be able to determine forces in statically determinate structures. Normal stresses and deformations of bars and beams are also covered.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and exercises. If threre is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
