The aim of this research is to define recommendations on the assessment of the case study Værnes Kirke and
historic timber structures in general. First of all, the research will focus on understanding the the global structural behavior of the Værnes church roof and the Trøndelag family of churches, performing visual inspection, material tests and numerical analysis.
Many traditional timber structures are still in use and demonstrate a great variety of outstanding traditional craftsmanship. The safety and the quality of the historical timber structures depend also on the condition of their connection. The research will also focus on experimental and numerical analysis of timber joints.
