Elena Baro
About
I am a researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, at the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture. I have a Ph.D. in Political Science from the department of Sociology and Political Science (NTNU).
I am particularly interested in public opinion and political behaviour, and I am currently researching how related dynamics inform support or opposition to climate policies. In my research, I explore the role that elements such as political cues, negative partisanship, and political symbols have in influencing attitudes toward climate policies. My broad research interest lie in Populism and radical right parties, Public opinion and opinion formation, Social and political psychology, Political Behaviour, Political Communication.
In my Ph.D. dissertation, I investigated what drives people to support populist parties, by looking at people's personal values, attitudes, and emotional components. The main aim of the thesis was to find common factors that might explain the populist upsurge across different European countries. In my dissertation and the related articles I employ quantitative methods and analyses of survey data such as the European Social Survey and the European Values Study.
Prior to joining NTNU, I obtained a master’s degree in Political Communication at the University of Torino and a bachelor’s degree in Communication from the Univeristy of Padova.
