Fredrik Granviken
About
I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Public Health and Nursing at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, NTNU, where I am affiliated with the Research Group for Musculoskeletal Health, Sleep, and Physical Activity. In addition, I hold a position as a specialist physiotherapist at the Physical Medicine Outpatient Clinic, Rehabilitation Clinic at St. Olav’s Hospital.
My doctoral research was part of the SupportPrim project, a decision-support initiative in primary care. The overarching aim of SupportPrim was to improve current treatment of common musculoskeletal disorders—including neck, shoulder, low back, hip, knee, and complex pain conditions in primary healthcare—and to expand the knowledge base beyond today’s one-size-fits-all recommendations. This involved moving from stratified care to personalized interventions using a clinical decision-support system based on artificial intelligence (AI).
The postdoctoral project investigates biopsychosocial mechanisms related to treatment outcomes through a cohort study with multiple follow-ups over one year. The project will provide new insights into the mechanisms underlying how physiotherapy works and offer recommendations on which factors clinicians in physiotherapy practice should prioritize, and which factors may warrant less attention.
