Study Program Manager Master Psychology

Researcher profile and thematic areas:

Throughout my training as a psychologist, I mainly focused on social and environmental psychology. I absolved my Diploma in Germany on power, social dominance and environmental behaviour. Subsequently, I completed my PhD at NTNU on sustainable (sea)food consumption.

Today, my research revolves around applying theories for behaviour change to encourage pro-environmental actions and decision making. In my international and interdisciplinary projects my focus is to identify behavioural barriers and facilitators for sustainable behaviour change such as norms, values, attitudes and perceptions. In these projects, I collaborate with other scientists to find innovative approaches and solutions for marine conservation, sustainable development or consumer decision making. Often, these projects are involving populations from marginalized backgrounds and developing countries as I am passionate about respect and equality across genders, cultures and backgrounds.

In the GCRF Blue Communities project, I am collaborating with 200+ scientists from multiple fields and countries to support sustainable development in marine biosphere reserves in South East Asia. Sub-project 12 of Blue Communities focuses on the development of alternative future scenarios. We use them to encourage sustainable decision making in coastal communities but we also measure the effects of scenario engagement on psychological indicators such as emotions and intentions. We collaborate closely with stakeholders and members of local communities to reinforce a participatory process and co-creation of solutions involving health, social and ecological aspects.

Further, I am involved in projects working on plastic pollution, water quality, environmental communication, sustainable consumption and sustainable tourism. In all these projects I am applying quantitative and qualitative methods from social and environmental psychology.
