Jun Ma
About
Jun Ma is an Associate Professor at NTNU – Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He joined NTNU as a postdoctoral fellow in Sept 2019 and was promoted to tenured associate professor in Sept 2021. Jun's research endeavour is more on the design and development of advanced metal forming and manufacturing processes/chains for both mass and customized production, by seeking the epistemological understanding of physical essence in the manufacturing processes/chains for developing innovative solutions toward improved accuracy and properties of products, productivity, profitability, and sustainability.

Research
AluGreen: Aluminium Green Platform
The AluGreen ambition is to explore, develop, and pilot high value true circular Al products, based on post-consumer Al scrap (PCS) and renewable energy, exported from Norwegian value chains with high degree of automation and skilled workers.
EXPECT: Complex EXtruded Aluminium Profiles for BEV Battery ProtECTion System
This project aims at developing an aluminium alloy optimization scheme for extrudability, crash management, and design functionality of complex multi-chamber profiles seen more and more in such structures.
TaFF: Digitally-Controlled, Toolless and Flexible Forming
This project will be used to develop a toolless forming concept - where the bending cycle can be digitally controlled and adjustable during production to avoid out-of-tolerance parts.
AdaptAl: Adaptiv Control of Aluminium Manufacturing
The overall idea of the project is to develop and demonstrate a product-service-system that integrate multi-physics models, process models, advanced sensors, and virtual data through an optimizing software.
CPS Plant: The Cyber Physical System Plant Perspective
The primary objective is to develop, utilize, implement and evaluate enabling technologies for Norwegian Industries of the future in a combined physical and virtual industrial model built on the principles of Industry 4.0.
Publications
Jun Ma has published more than 60 peer-reviewed book chapters, journal and conference articles, as well as several patents. Many of them are published in the top-notched journal in the metal forming and manufacturing field, such as Int J Mach Tools Manu (IJMTM), Int J Plast (IJP), Int J Mech Sci (IJMS), J Mater Process Technol (JMPT), as well as the important conferences such as ICTP, ESAFORM, MSEC-NAMRC, Metal Forming. One paper was awarded the "Best Poster Prize" at ICTP2017 at Cambridge University, and several journal papers were listed as "Highly Cited Paper" in the Web of Science. Jun is sitting on the editorial board of several journals such as J Mater Sci Technol (IF=10.32). He is also an active reviewer for more than 30 top-notched journals in the material, mechanical and manufacturing fields, such as IJMTM, IJP, CIRP, IJMS, AMSE, IJAMT.
