About

Katharina is a PhD candidate at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) at the Faculty of Natural Sciences (NV) in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (IMA). She is part of the FACET group under the main supervision of Prof. Mari-Ann Einarsrud and co-supervision of Prof. Paraskevas Kontis. Katharina's PhD research focuses on nanoscale chemical mapping of oxides in 3D using Atom Probe Tomography (APT) to investigate how local variations in chemical composition affect their functional material properties. Alongside her PhD, she works as a duty worker at the NTNU NanoLab cleanroom facility responsible for Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Focused ion beam (FIB) characterization instruments. Before starting her PhD at NTNU, Katharina obtained a B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Physics from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, supported by the Erasmus+ exchange program and the Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium).

Competencies

  • Atom Probe Tomography (APT)
  • Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
  • Focused Ion Beam (FIB)
  • Piezoelectric Response Force Microscopy (PFM)
  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
  • Thin Film Growth (Magnetron Sputtering)
  • X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
  • conductive Atomic Force Microscopy (cAFM)
