About
I am a PhD candidate in the Structural Department and part of NTNU's Circular City project which is one of the Sustainability research projects.
Resource extraction for construction materials require large amounts of energy which contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, annually, there is a large quantity of construction and demolition waste polluting cities. However, some components and materials from these activities are still in good condition. The construction industry can be more sustainable by urban mining the building stock thereby reducing waste, pollution and resource extraction.
The PhD project aims at investigating how structural components and materials from existing buildings can be used in new construction using BIM and probabilistic modelling.
