Research group: Functional Materials and Materials Chemistry (FACET)

Professor of materials chemistry at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at NTNU since 2018, assoc. prof. 2012-18. Visting scientist at the National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS), Tsukuba, Japan in 2016; the Materials Theory Group at ETH Zürich in 2011-12 and at Materials Research Laboratory at UC Santa Barbara in 2008.

PhD in solid state chemistry from NTNU (2009), sivilingeniør (MSc) in Materials Science and Engineering from NTNU (2005), born 1980. 

Supervised 5 graduated PhD students, 4 post docs and 27 MSc students. Currently 1 post doc, 4 PhD students and 1 MSc student. About 90 peer-reviewed papers in international journals.

Research areas (DFT calculations of electronic structure, synthesis and characterisation of materials): 

  • Ferroic materials: domain walls, defects, phase transitions.
  • Battery materials: transport properties and stability.
  • Materials for oxygen absorption and storage.
  • Inorganic-organic hybrid materials.
  • Synchrotron and neutron total scattering (PDF - pair distribution function) for materials characterisation.

Commissions of trust

  • DMSE department board, elected faculty representative, 2021-2025.
  • Panel member and application evaluation for Swedish Vetenskapsrådet (VR) 2018-2021 and Wallenberg Foundation (2022).
  • Opponent in PhD defences at Insitute Josef Stefan (Slovenia), Chalmers (Sweden), Univ. Liege (Belgium), Aarhus University (Denmark), Anna University (India), National Institute of Technology Durgapur (India), Universitety of Oslo (Norway) and University of New South Wales (Australia).
  • Board member for the Nanotechnology study programme.
