About

I am a plant biologist focusing on molecular signaling pathways and developmental biology. I am currently working as a Postdoctoral researcher in Thorsten Hamann's group in the MultiScale section of the Department of Biology. The focus of our group is linked to understand processes during cell wall integrity maintenance in the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana.

Cell Wall Integrity (CWI) maintenance is crucial for monitoring and maintaining the integrity of plant cell walls. The CWI maintenance machinery is active during growth and development and influences responses to pathogen infection, temperature, osmotic-, salt- and drought stresses. The CWI maintenance mechanism involves receptor-like kinases and ion channels in the plasma membrane. They perceive signals arising from CWI impairment and modulate downstream signaling cascades. These lead to altered phytohormone production (Abscisic acid (ABA), Salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), and ethylene), gene expression, and cell wall composition/structure.

I am working on identifying novel transcriptional regulators mediating the response to impairment of primary cell wall integrity and the characterization of signal transduction elements controlling SA induction and modulating SA-controlled responses. My project will help to understand how transcription factors modulate primary cell wall composition and structure in response to CWI impairment. In parallel, the project will identify those transcription factors which can function as leads to optimize crop performance.
