About

Design for me is about making good experiences. A design should be simple, natural, and graceful. Designs should promote interactions that are respectful of people and in harmony with culture and nature. Design should contribute something of lasting value to people. The ecological investment of bringing a new product to market requires a balance that novelty and fun alone often struggle to make up. My test of value is that I should be able to form an emotional attachment to a product and keep it for a long time. A physical product should age gracefully, increasing in value as it is worn and repaired. My research interests span broadly from industrial design to interaction design and game design. I am interested in the application of embodied mind theory and ecological psychology applied to design of products and interfaces. I am also keeping an eye og game design theory and practice because it can teach us about creating joyfull and engaging products. In professional practice, I have design experience primarily with sportsequipment, kayaks, multihull sailboats, medical- and aviation-technology and process industry. In my spare time I photograph to get better at seeing and critically appraising our visual world.

This is a  Manifesto of future design education I coauthored with Matthijs vanDijk and Johannes Sigurjonson in 2020
