About

Research

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa, Canada. My research focuses on turbulence and multiphase flows, motivated by the need to advance our understanding of environmental challenges such as plastic pollution and climate change. I was awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship 2022 under the Horizon Europe program by the European Commission to investigate the inertial effects of microplastics in turbulent wavy flow (InMyWaves). This project was supervised by  Prof. R. Jason Hearst and co-supervised by Prof. James Dawson in the Thermo-fluids group.

Academic Background

2015-2021 Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, University of Minnesota, USA

2015-2018 M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, University of Minnesota, USA

2011-2015 B.Eng (HONS) in Aerospace Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia, MYS

Volumetric study of particle-wake interactions based on free falling finite particles

In this study, we explored how the wakes of leading particles influence the settling of trailing particles in still water using the volumetric particle tracking Shake-The-Box technique.

Outreach

Science is Wonderful! - Dancing plastics in the ocean (25-26 April 2024, in Brussels, Belgium)

Together with Prof R. Jason Hearst, we presented the importance of understanding plastic pollution in our oceans and our work on tracking the motion of plastic particles in ocean-like flows. This is part of my MSCA post-doctoral fellowship project.
