Team Biodiversity is an interdisciplinary group of researchers studying how biodiversity is affected by energy development and operations. We work on impacts on terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. The expansion of renewable energy is necessary to meet climate targets but can simultaneously put pressure on areas that may be important habitats for species and ecosystems. Team Biodiversity sheds light on different perspectives of this trade-off and contributes knowledge that enables the development of energy systems that are nature-friendly, not just climate-friendly. 

Team Biodiversity focuses on: 

• Mapping and quantifying how energy development and operations affect ecosystems, species richness, habitat quality, and fragmentation of habitats on land and in water. 
• Developing and improving methods for assessing biodiversity impacts across the full life cycle of energy systems. 
• Investigating opportunities for nature restoration linked to energy projects, and evaluating how strategic planning and siting can reduce conflicts with biodiversity.
