Health promotion

Promoting health in a changing world
Our global community has reached many public health milestones during the last decades. However, the world is rapidly changing, and we are continuously faced with new challenges, but also opportunities. In this session, we will discuss their implications for health promotion and preventive health care for the next decades. The participants in the panel debate come from different disciplines and sectors, which should enable a holistic and nuanced debate on how to promote a healthy future for our societies.

Forecasting health and population in the 21st century. What will the future look like?
Stein Emil Vollset
This presentation will give an overview of the metrics and coverage of the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD). For the world and major world regions, main findings from forecasts of disease burden to 2050 will include:
- The trajectory of life expectancy and healthy life expectancy
- Future fatal and non-fatal burden from major disease and injuries groups for deaths and disability adjusted life years (DALYs)
- Future health scenarios from reducing exposures to environmental, non-communicable and malnutrition risk factors
Additionally, we will explore the future of fertility and population trends up to 2100 and link those to challenges for global health in the coming decades.
