Update for student workspaces for master's students at IBM

Starting from fall 2024, "free seating" will be implemented. Fifth-year students will be allocated rooms based on their choice of main profile, while fourth-year students will have access to a dedicated study hall on the first floor.

Regulations for student workspaces for master's students at IBM

1. Scope and target audience

These regulations apply to student workspaces for master's degree students at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (IBM). They cover students enrolled in 2-year master's programs and students in their 4th or 5th year of 5-year master's programs.

The student workspaces are reserved for students who will submit their master's thesis at IBM. If you are submitting your thesis and/or have a primary supervisor at another department, you cannot use the student workspace at IBM.

2. Use of student workspaces

Student workspaces should be used solely for academic activities, and there should be a quiet atmosphere in these spaces. All non academic and social activities should take place outside the workrooms.

Digital equipment such as PCs and mobile phones must be on silent mode. The workspace and room should be kept tidy, and the desktop should be free of books and papers when not in use, so that others can use it.

The use of coffee makers, kettles, refrigerators, heaters, or any other electronic equipment that may pose a fire hazard is not permitted in the workrooms. Such equipment is only allowed in common kitchen areas and must be connected to timers. Equipment that violates these rules will be removed.

Personal furniture is not allowed in the workrooms for fire safety and emergency exit purposes.

The use or storage of drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited in the workrooms. Violations of this rule may be reported to the police.

It is also prohibited to hang anything on walls, windows, or doors, as this may cause damage.

3. Responsibilities, complaints, and sanctions

NTNU and/or IBM do not accept responsibility for personal belongings left in student workspaces. We encourage all students to take valuable belongings with them when leaving the workspace.

Any complaints about conditions in the study hall must be submitted in writing to the department.

Students who violate the regulations may be issued one warning by the department. Repeat offenders may have their access to the student

workspace revoked.

4. Fire instructions

All users of NTNU's premises, including student workspaces, must familiarize themselves with NTNU's fire instructions.
