The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (IMA) is well recognised in education and research in the fields of materials science and technology. We help solve regional, national and global challenges, and contribute to the development of a sustainable society for future generations.

With strong research-based dissemination, the department contributes to innovation and development that meet society's challenges. Our study programmes provide our students with theoretical and practical expertise that will enable them to solve these challenges.

The department is the only university department in Norway offering a master's degree programme in materials science and engineering.

The department's high quality laboratories and modern and updated infrastructure are the pillars of the department's educational and research activities.
