About the department

The Department of Modern History and Society offers education, research and communication in the field of modern history. In collaboration with the Department of Historical and Classical Studies we give lectures and supervision to students in history and history with teacher education programme. In 2023 the department is starting a new master's programme called War and Society, in collaboration with the Norwegian Armed Forces.

Our students and employees collaborate to create education, research and dissemination of high quality from an active research environment.

ERC Starting Grant awarded to Madeleine Dungy

Call for proposals - Workshop on Child abandonment and gender discrimination in the past

On 10 November 2023 in Trondheim, the research group Missing Girls in Historical Europe at the Department of Modern History and Society is organising a workshop on Child abandonment and gender discrimination in the past (link to the event).
