I am leading the NOS-HS network project, "Cinema, War and Citizenship at the Periphery: Cinemas and their audiences in the Nordic countries, 1935-1950," funded by the Nordic Research Councils.

Our goal is to establish a broad interdisciplinary network of researchers, archivists, museum educators, and enthusiasts who explore the various social, cultural, economic, and political functions of cinema in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden before, during, and after World War II.

Some of the questions we are investigating include: What role did cinema play as a social space in society? How did the cinematic landscape develop in the Nordic region? How often and why did people go to the movies, and what were the differences between urban and rural areas? Which films were shown in cinemas, and how did films circulate across borders?
