The Department of Historical Studies comprises approximately 80 staff members. Around half hold permanent academic positions, 11 are employed in administrative roles, and about 20 occupy temporary posts.

The department is dedicated to advancing research, teaching, and education in history, spanning from antiquity to the present day. In addition, we offer academic programmes and conduct research in archaeology, European studies, classical disciplines, and cultural heritage management.

Our staff are actively engaged in research and have earned international recognition across multiple fields. To foster innovation and support scholarly development, we regularly seek external funding for both research and teaching initiatives. Knowledge transfer is central to our mission, and we deliver research-informed teaching to our students. Public engagement and dissemination of knowledge beyond the university are also key priorities.

Our academic activities are shaped by societal needs for historical insight, as well as the intellectual interests of our employees and students.

We maintain strong collaborative ties with partners at the local, national, and international levels, contributing to a diverse range of research projects.

The Department of Historical Studies is one of six departments within the Faculty of Humanities.
