Summary
Reducing health inequalities has become a major public health priority internationally. Current public health work is characterized by fragmented efforts that fail to address the underlying structural and cultural drivers, which produce inequalities in health. However, one of the main challenges when it comes to public health interventions is succeeding in implementing coordinated efforts across sectors.
This project aims to develop coordinated multi-sector interventions and policies that can reduce inequalities in health and promote health and health equity. Special attention is directed towards targeting mental health in children, adolescents and their families. By making use of both qualitative data and quantitative population-based register data, the project seeks to identify facilitators and barriers for user involvement and coordinated work across sectors, explain the impact of interventions on mental health and the pathways leading to positive health outcomes and develop models of good practice for efficient multi-sector public health efforts.
Situated within the framework of the regional program Public Health Work in Municipalities (2017-2027), the project provides a unique opportunity to examine coordinated multi-sector actions and identify effective measures targeting population mental health. The research and activities will be done in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the participating municipalities. All municipalities within the program apply the Trøndelag Model for Public Health Work as the main approach for planning and implementing multi sector interventions.
