About

About the course

Course content

The course investigates and challenges the PROCESS OF DESIGNING ( - BUILDINGS ),it works with the ability to FORMULATE PRECISE architectural ideas and concepts, through using key words, build stories, writing poems, making sketches and simple conceptual models. This derives from the belief that if you are capable of formulating and informing your project with A HIGH LEVEL OF PRECISION, it is much easier to translate this into a precise, strong, architecturally clear project.

Learning outcome

Main goal is that the students might reach a new level of conciousness in working with the (architectural-) design process, through actively be able to identify their architectural intentions concerning form, space, space -character, light, sequence, movement as well as contextual presence. KNOWLEDGE The candidate K-1 has in-depth knowledge of architecture as a field of knowledge – its theory and history, as well as its technical, scientific, social and cultural basis – and can apply this knowledge in their own architectural work. K-2 has considerable aesthetic and practical understanding (tacit knowledge) and can apply this knowledge in their own architectural work. K-3 has highly developed experiential knowledge of the relationship between architectural representations at different levels of abstraction, and built architecture SKILLS The candidate F-1 is able to give form to architecture, at an international architectural level through artistic and scientific investigations, concept development, and architectural and urban design in various scales and formats. F-2 is in command of architectural methods, tools and forms of expression, and can apply these in architectural design in a targeted, professional and experimental manner.  GENERAL COMPETENCE The candidate G-1 takes independent responsibility for their own learning and professional development and is able to apply their knowledge and skills in new fields. G-2 is able to reflect critically and ethically on their own architectural work, create new frameworks for understanding, and depart from conventions after critical consideration. G-3 is able to communicate their own and others’ architectural work – to specialists as well as to the general public – at a professional level and in an academic context.

Learning methods and activities

Project based studio. Each of the three project periods start with a series of 1 to 3 day sketches investigating a precise formulated form-theme.

Excursions can be arranged as part of the teaching of the course. The course leader will inform the students if the excursion is obligatory or optional at the start of the semester. Obligatory excursions will be free of cost for all students. Students who participate in optional excursions must expect to pay a small share of the expenses. For students who do not participate in optional excursions, an alternative will be offered.
