Course content
The use of design visualization and simulation opens up new possibilities for architects who aim to make full use of powerful digital tools to aid their design work, explore spatial relations, perform simulations, investigate decision making on a higher level, perform complex contextual analysis, try collaboration or improve their visual communication abilities.
Learning outcome
The course aims to develop a broad knowledge of the use of computer tools in architectural design, simulation, quality control, decision making and communication. Throughout the course, students will gain knowledge and experience that can help them succeed in making use of advanced digital tools in their further studies and later professional practice. The course will give an introduction to the digital design tools that are relevant in an architectural context. Techniques and working methods related to visual communication, 3D modelling, visualization and animation, image editing, real-time simulations etc. will be covered. By choosing a specialization theme, the student will acquire more in-depth insight, understanding and competence in selected subjects.
Knowledge: The candidate has advanced knowledge in the field of architectural visualization and can work independently with a practical and theoretical approach. He or she can acquire and apply relevant knowledge in a new way.
Skills: The candidate can, under supervision, carry out an independently defined project where technique and artistic quality are of high quality. They should be able to communicate a project's essence and character in a good way.
General competence: The candidate can use his / her knowledge to develop visual architecture communication with a high degree of intelligence, adapted to the project's character, progressive status and target groups.
Learning methods and activities
Lessons will be given in English and individual tutoring in Norwegian or English. The curriculum will be presented and discussed in workshops, lectures, seminars and tutorials. Assignments will be based on individual work or groups. Maximum number of students: 15.
Further on evaluation
The assignments are reviewed collectively, where assignment 3 and 4 are rated as most important (although assignment 2 also must be submitted and presented). All tasks are presented and discussed successively throughout the semester and all presentations are submitted in a digital form prior to the assessment.
The examination is in the form of an overall presentation of the student's work throughout the semester, and this presentation forms the basis for the assessment. Postponed examinations (or failed exams) are normally carried out in the next exam period. If the student fails, the assignment 3 and 4 have to be reworked and delivered.
