About

About the course

Course content

The course is primarily intended for students enrolled in study programmes offered at the Department of ICT and Natural Sciences (IIR) who for various reasons need an individual adaptation to their study plan. However, the course content is not limited to topics purely related to automation or computer engineering. Hence, exchange students, students enrolled in other study programmes, or students at other campuses (Trondheim or Gjøvik) can also be accepted to the course. As long as the content does not result in credits reduction and a suitable supervisor can be appointed, any student in a technological study programme can take the course upon approval from both the course coordinator and from the academic director of the study programme of the student.

The course will in general be an individual self-study course under supervision, with a work load corresponding to the number of credit points of the course. The course content is individually adapted to students taking the course. An individual course plan for each student taking the course must be prepared by the student in collaboration with a supervisor. The course plan must describe the selected course content, learning outcomes, learning activities, and content of the portfolio for assessment.

When there are more than one student with identical or similar course plans, supervision may be provided to the students as a group.

The course content must not result in credits reduction towards other courses the student has completed or will complete. The individual course plan must be approved by the course coordinator and the academic director of the study programme of the student at the start of the course.

Learning outcome

The learning outcome must be described in an individual course plan that must be approved by both the course coordinator and the academic director of the study programme of the student.

Learning methods and activities

The learning activities must be described in an individual course plan that must be approved by both the course coordinator and the academic director of the study programme of the student.

Compulsory assignments

Further on evaluation

The final grade is based on an overall evaluation of the portfolio, which consists of work that is carried out, documented and digitally submitted during the semester.

The portfolio will typically consist of a report supplemented with other relevant deliverables.

There will be mandatory work, which as a minimum includes a plan for the course.

There is no resit exam. If a student retakes the course, previously delivered works in the portfolio may be reused.

Upon request, the final version of the approved course plan can be signed by the course coordinator and provided to students who pass the course. This signed document then serves the purpose as a course certificate describing the course.

Required previous knowledge

The course has no prerequisites. As long as the course will not result in credits reduction and a suitable supervisor can be appointed, any student in a technological study programme can take the course upon approval from both the course coordinator and from the academic director of the study programme of the student.

Course materials

There is no standard course material available. However, students will be provided with resources tailored to their individual course plan as needed.
