About the course
Course content
The course provides a practical and theoretical introduction to art-based research strategies and focuses on how research can be done with and through the performing arts. Students work exploratively based on their own specialization focus, where the emphasis is either on dramaturgy or applied theater. The research dissemination takes the form of performative, scenic work as well as written reflection. The course emphasizes the sustainable use of materials in process and dissemination.
The students are prepared practically and theoretically for the researcher role, and for their own Master's projects.

Knowledge
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have knowledge about:
- different approaches to art-based research methods and the relevance of these to students master's project.
- performing arts central dramaturgical, technical and organizational elements and processes
- research dissemination, both performative and written
- documentation methods within art-based research processes
- research ethical assessments
Skills
Upon successful completion of this course, the students will know how to:
- plan, implement, disseminate and evaluate ones own art-based research project in the light of relevant theories.
- collaborate based on an understanding of collective research processes
- reflect on one's own research process
- develop critical reflection of use of resources and ethical considerations.
Learning methods and activities
The course consists of lectures, seminars, exercises and supervision.
Students are required to keep up to date on messages from the department and/or lecturer via Blackboard.

- 80% attendance required

Further on evaluation
Final assessment is divided into two parts. It consists of a performance/practical demonstration that counts 80% and is adjusted through individual oral exam. The written program-report is to be submitted before the performance/practical demonstration, counts 20% and is adjusted through individual oral exam.
The performance/practical demonstration can be conducted either as a group or an individual. By failing the exam, the course must be retaken.
