Course content

The course looks at Drama and Theatre from a research perspective and gives a short academic-historic background to contemporary Theatre studies and tendencies. The instruction focuses on the connection between theoretical and methodological choices, in a practical theoretical in-depth-study of artistic and art-educational research. The students will work experimentally with artistic and art-educational research forms, and with research communication in the form of performative, scenic expressions as well as written reflections. The course relates to UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, focusing on sustainable use of materials and energy during the research process and dissemination of research.

Learning methods and activities

The course consists of lectures, seminars and tutoring in practical sessions, a written portfolio and project work. The work will be marked with a letter grade. In addition, there will be a seminar where students can discuss project ideas for their thesis'. The first part of the seminar consists of joint introductions for all the department's master's students. Current topics for these introductions are, for example; the master's thesis as a genre, what a project description is, the master's agreement and the guidelines that otherwise regulate the master's study.

Students are required to check the results of practice assignments via Blackboard. Students are required to keep up to date on messages from the department or the lecturer via Blackboard. Teaching is usually conducted in Norwegian, but may take place in English.
