Course content
Design of low voltage distribution circuits - Load estimation (including use of advanced metering systems) - Power losses and voltage drop - Selectivity for fault clearance - Integration of local production (such as PV solar) - Influence from district heating -Interaction between district heating systems and the electrical power system - Structure and use of smart grids in low voltage grids - Technical/economical analysis due to investments/re-investments in energy supply systems District heating: - Heat demand, heat load - Production plants - Distribution - Substations - District heating system - Economy - Development of district heating
Learning outcome
After completion the course, he student should have:Knowledge:- Know the different parts of the district heating system and how district heating systems interact with surrounding technical systems- Know energy consumption related to heating needs, tap water, lighting etc. based on the type of building- Know how to design low-voltage circuits in the distribution network and how district heating affects the design- Know the technical / economic analyzes and tools usedSkills:- Could stipulate year and day variations for different loads- Could stipulate annual consumption of energy of different loads- Could calculate energy and power requirements for a development area based on mixed housing and mixed supply of electricity and district heating- Could dimension the size of plant and pipes- Could calculate pressure loss and heat loss in district heating pipes- Could do technical / economic analysis when designing district heating and low voltage supply- Could do calculations in a simulation programGeneral competence:- The student has acquired knowledge and skills about new technologies such as smart grid and AMS.The student has acquired knowledge and skills regarding the use of digital tools-The student has acquired knowledge and skills about the interaction between different energy systems.- The student has acquired knowledge of the project member's role and responsibility in a project work

Assessment consists of 2 assessment parts: Written school examination (70/100) and Project (30/100).
Compulsory work requirements: - 7 out of 10-12 exercises must be approved. -Study visit.
A re-sit examination for the written exam and project:
- Written exam: A re-sit examination for the written exam will be held in March and may be changed from written to oral.
- Project: a new project assignment will be given in the beginning of March and the report must be submitted by March.
