Learning methods and activities

  • Self-study.

The course consists of an individual theoretical syllabus related to the master`s degree and topics in the field of natural resources management or master's degree in Geography. Syllabus is defined by the students in co-operation with his/her supervisor, and must be approved by the Department of Geography. The syllabus should be approximately 500 pages. It should give a broader scientific understanding, and preferably be of newer date. Reports/grey literature can only be used exceptionally. The chosen syllabus cannot be the same as used in the master`s thesis, program of study or from subjects in lower degree.

Compulsory assignments:

  • The "Application form - Individual syllabus" must be filled out in cooperation with supervisor and submitted to the Department of Geography at least 2 months before the oral exam. The application form is available at the Department of Geography.
  • A term paper submitted one month before oral exam. The term paper will be evaluated as Pass/Not pass and act as a starting point for the oral exam. The term paper should be between 2000-3000 words.

Examination arrangement: Oral exam (ca 30 min)

Required previous knowledge

Students must have completed at least 30 credits in the study programme before they can register for the course.
